Podgorica, Montenegro was the friendliest of the three cities we had visited in the country, which includes Kotor and Budva. Likely, it was because Kotor and Budva were the most touristy and the locals there were stressed out during the peak tourist season. Check out our previous post on the Soviet side of Podgorica.
We even learned that prices in stores go way down off-season, and would recommend visiting the country during this time. Podgorica is not so touristy, however, and has some great spots that we enjoyed, including the New Town, called Novi Grad in Montenegrin.

Karadjordjev Park, which is located right next to King’s Park had a great outdoor gym with calisthenic exercise capabilities. Andriy did a few exercised before we headed towards the new town.
We also walked to the edge of the downtown area via the pedestrian shopping street called Hercegovacka. The street is very pretty and lively, and even has an iconic-looking hotel. If you are into window shopping, you will find many stores here to peek into.

The Modern Town in Podgorica
Back to the New Town, you can get to it by crossing a scenic bridge of your choice. Next to these bridges are wonderful, peaceful parts to walk around or relax in. And walking along the new town streets, we spotted another outdoor gym, which is pretty popular in Europe.

One quick tip: if you need to withdraw cash, there are many bank ATM’s that charge fees, and we only found one that had none. It was Erste Bank. However, make sure you decline the bank’s conversion and instead, choose conversion by your card issuer (Visa or Mastercard). This way, you pay much less. For example, we paid 220 US dollars to withdraw 200 euros using Visa conversion. If we would have chosen Erste’s conversion, we would have paid 240 US dollars.
In our next post, we review our bus trip from Podgorica to Kotor, including the cheapest way to get tickets, as well as the scenic views and stops along the trip. Subscribe to our Blokhin Films YouTube channel to stay up to date on our travels, stock photography tips and other topics.
